Wrong-way crash in Pittsfield leaves 1 dead, 1 hospitalized

One person was killed and another hospitalized after a wrong-way crash on I-95 in Pittsfield.

Troopers were responding to reports of a wrong-way driver around 11 a.m. Tuesday when they received a report of a crash at mile 147 in Pittsfield.

Investigators say 82-year-old Ivan Cunningham of Corinna was heading north in the southbound lane and struck a vehicle being driven by 27-year-old Nathaniel Blanchard of Stetson head-on.

Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene.

Blanchard was flown by Life Flight to Eastern Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
