Woman Arrested in Oxford County After High Speed Chase

A Maine woman faces charges of Criminal Speed and Eluding an Officer after police say she led them on a multi-town chase in Oxford County.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy spotted 34-year-old Sydney Whitelaw of Stoneham driving a Jeep Cherokee recklessly on Route 5 in Lovell on Wednesday around 7:50 a.m.

The deputy tried to pull Whitelaw over, suspecting impaired driving, but she reportedly drove off.

Deputies say they chased Whitelaw for 11 miles through Lovell into Stoneham.

They say the chase ended when Whitelaw pulled into her driveway and stopped.

Deputies then arrested Whitelaw and charged her with criminal speed and eluding an officer.

Whitelaw was taken to the Oxford County Jail. A release from the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office did not include OUI suspicion of Whitelaw outside of the deputy’s thought process while observing erratic driving.
