The Westbrook Fire Department recently became the first municipal fire department in Maine to be awarded national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS).

“This achievement means your fire department is meeting—and exceeding—the highest national standards for emergency medical response,” said Mayor David Morse. CAAS awards the distinction to the top 1% of ambulance services.

The award is a reflection of over 100 standards met. These standards include checks across equipment maintenance, clinical care, leadership structure, and community outreach.

The Westbrook Professional Firefighters page highlighted the work of EMS clinicians. “This high level of care is unwavering, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”

Additionally, the Westbrook Professional Firefighters page thanked Teamsters Local Union 340 and Mayor David Morse. “Without [the union’s] dedication and continuous work, these multiple awards and accreditation would not be possible to achieve. Thank you, Mayor David Morse, for your support of the hardworking union members that make up the department.”

The department received two additional awards recently. The Maine EMS Service of the Year and the Safety and Health Award for Public Employers were both given to the Westbrook Fire Department.

“Westbrook is a city on the rise,” said Morse. “And this recognition shows that your Fire Department is rising right along with it.”
