A South Portland teenager accused of planning an attack at his high school will remain in custody.

The Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office says the boy is accused of making threats and trying to recruit another person to commit murder at South Portland High School last spring.

The Portland Press Herald reports that the judge said detaining the teen could further isolate him from a community that has already ostracized him.

According to CBS 13 news, the 17-year-old was set to be released from Long Creek Youth Development Center on Friday and placed under house arrest. In an update Friday afternoon, a message from the District Attorney’s office said the judge reversed the decision after new information was presented, and that the teen would remain in custody.
