State officials are warning residents about a rise in paving scams in Maine.

According to CBS 13, the Office of the Maine Attorney General says the scammers will often pose as contractors who say they’re working on a project nearby.

They’ll offer to use the leftover asphalt from that job to do your driveway as well.

The scammers will often quote you a very low estimate, or provide none at all, and ask for money up front.

State officials say you should always sign a contract before any work begins, be beware of potential pressure tactics and be leery of paying for the job up front and in cash.

Officials say springtime is when these types of scams begin to pop up again.
