South Carolina Man Pleads Guilty to Robbing Westbrook Bank

A 61-year-old South Carolina man is admitting to robbing a bank in Westbrook and fleeing to New Hampshire.

Jean Pierre Gendron pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Portland to bank robbery.

Court records show Gendron handed a note demanding money to a teller at a Westbrook bank, and then fled the bank with over $6,300 in a blue bank bag.

Prosecutors say Westbrook Police identified Gendron as the robber and determined that he boarded a bus to Londonderry, New Hampshire, shortly after the robbery

The Londonderry Police Department arrested Gendron when he exited the bus. Prosecutors say Gendron had over $6,300 in cash and a blue bank bag on his person when arrested.

Gendron faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigative report by the U.S. Probation Office. A federal district court judge will determine Gendron’s sentence.

The FBI and the Westbrook Police Department investigated the case.
