Semi Crash Causes Downed Power Poles, Lines in Auburn

Auburn, Maine Police Department - Downed power poles and power lines

Auburn Police say a crash that knocked down numerous power poles and lines Wednesday was caused by a truck driver experiencing a medical episode.

Officers say 62-year-old Steven Gross of East Millinocket was driving a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer when he veered off the roadway and hit a power pole, snapping it in half and pulling down a second pole and wires.

The crash left electrical wires and a transformer lying in the middle of Center Street in Auburn.

Police say Gross was not seriously injured in the crash.

Center Street was closed for several hours Wednesday while crews worked to clear the scene and restore power from the fallen lines.
