Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows is running for Governor after announcing her candidacy this morning at the Hancock Community Center.

Bellows is a Democrat who made national headlines when she moved to keep then-former President Donald Trump off the Republican Party’s primary ballot due to his role in the January 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Bellows has served as a state senator and was the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine.

She also ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate against incumbent Senator Susan Collins in 2014.

According to her campaign, Bellows ran for state Senate in 2016 with a campaign focused on lowering property taxes. She was re-elected in 2018 and 2020.

In 2021, Bellows was sworn in as Maine’s first female Secretary of State.

She has a campaign event planned for Wednesday at 12:30 pm at the Viles Arboretum in Augusta.
