Searchers locate bodies of father and daughter who went missing in Baxter State Park


The body of a father and daughter from New York who went missing while hiking near the summit of Mt. Katahdin in Baxter State Park have been found.

Park officials say 58-year-old Tim Keiderling and his daughter 28-year-old Esther Keiderling left Abol Campground Sunday to hike the summit of Mt. Katahdin.

The search expanded on Tuesday, with the Maine Forest Service and Maine Army National Guard using helicopters to comb the woods.

In an update on Tuesday, authorities said the body of Tim Keiderling.

The search for Esther picked back up again Wednesday, with searchers locating her body around 1 p.m. in a wooded area between two known trails.

Both bodies were found off the Tablelands, near the summit of Katahdin.

There’s been no word yet on the pair’s cause of death.
