A procession was held Monday honoring a firefighter who died nearly a month after suffering serious injuries in an explosion and fire at a Searsmont lumber mill.

Searsmont Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Woodbury died Sunday at Maine Medical Center.

The 76-year-old’s body was transported from Portland to Belfast during the procession Monday afternoon.

The motorcade traveled along Route 3 and through Searsmont before arriving at Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast.

The blast and explosion at Robbins Lumber Mill last month injured 12 people.

The procession came the same day that another firefighter injured in the mill fire was released from Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Montville volunteer firefighter Jacob Spaulding suffered serious injuries and was in a medically-induced coma for several hours after the fire.

The 23-year-old was released Monday, with family members saying it could take up to two years for him to fully recover.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to help cover Spaulding’s medical expenses.
