Portland Police are investigating an early-morning fire on Monday as possible arson.
Officers say crews located and extinguished a fire on a third-floor unit at 72 Bishop Street, and an investigation found suspicious materials.
They say an examination of the materials by the Hazardous Device Unit (HDU) determined there was no threat, and investigators were able to safely continue the investigation.
Police say it appears the occupant of the apartment attempted to lower himself out a third-floor window with sheets tied together, before falling to the ground.
He was taken to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say an investigation into the arson suspect continues, with charges likely.
