(RUMFORD) – A shelter-in-place order has been lifted, though police are still searching for four armed and dangerous suspects. The incident began late Friday night when an officer attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle. A high-speed chase followed, during which suspects in the vehicle fired at police cruisers, disabling one. Officers did not return fire.
The suspect’s vehicle crashed on South Rumford Road, and the individuals inside fled on foot. The Rumford Police Department, with assistance from multiple other agencies, launched a search using K-9s and drones. One suspect was located and taken into custody on Route 232.
By 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, authorities were confident that the remaining suspects were no longer a threat to the immediate area and lifted the shelter-in-place. The four suspects still at large are described as three Hispanic males and one white male, all dressed in dark clothing and known to be armed with long guns and handguns.
