Lawyers for an Ecuadorian man who was arrested by Border Patrol in Maine are dropping a petition filed in federal court.
According to the Portland Press Herald, 57-year-old Humberto Cachimuel Alfusi, who’s been living in the U.S. for 20 years and arrived on a visitor’s visa, was detained near Fort Fairfield last week.
A family member told the paper they didn’t know his condition after he was hospitalized for his diabetes, or where he was being treated.
The attorneys dropped the petition after family members learned he had been taken to an ICE facility in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
His attorneys filed a copy of an approved I-130 petition from 2005, which is submitted by U.S. citizen relatives to begin the process of getting a green card.
