66-Year-Old Man Injured in Oakland, Maine House Explosion

Oakland, Maine house explosion - Maine State Police

One man has sustained serious injuries from a house explosion on Thursday afternoon in Oakland, north of Augusta.

The Maine State Fire Marshall’s office reports that the explosion occurred at around 3:00 PM on Lakeview Drive, with the two-story building being completely destroyed in the blast.

In an update provided today, initial investigations reveal that a propane gas leak found an ignition source, leading to the explosion. Investigators have ruled out the propane tanks themselves as the source of the leak and are now examining several propane appliances for the cause.

The occupant of the home, 66-year-old Cliff Hannon was inside during the explosion, and sustained serious injuries. He’s since been taken to Maine Medical Center via LifeFlight, though no updates have been provided regarding his condition.
