One of the state’s largest health care systems will be cutting its workforce by 3 percent.

Northern Light Health announced Wednesday it will cut 308 positions across the system as it faces ongoing financial problems.

As part of the cuts, Northern Light will be eliminating the walk-in care clinic at Eastern Maine Medical Center, with additional primary care staff on hand to help patients looking for walk-in care.

A spokesperson said about two-thirds of the cut positions were eliminated by retirements and not filling open positions, including leadership positions like the chief strategy officer and a senior vice president.
