A Portland man charged with murder for the death of his roommate last year did not enter a plea during his arraignment on Friday.

According to the Portland Press Herald, 48-year-old Domingus Nobrega is accused of killing 43-year-old Matthew Merrick, whose body was found in a West End apartment in November.

The judge said the court would enter a not guilty plea on Nobrega’s behalf, after he told her he didn’t understand the charges against him.

Few details about the killing have been released, including Merrick’s cause of death, but the medical examiner ruled it a homicide.
