Maine is joining a group of 21 other states in filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration over cutting funds that support medical and public health research at universities and research institutions.
Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey joined the group challenging the administration’s attempt to cut “indirect cost” reimbursements at research institutes across the country.
Frey said the cuts could “result in the suspension of lifesaving and life-extending clinical trials, disruption of research programs, layoffs, and laboratory closures.”
A White House spokesperson claims redirecting those funds will make more money and resources available for scientific research.
