Maine teen first juvenile in the nation to face charges in connection with online extremist group

A Maine teenager is the first juvenile in the nation to be charged in connection with what the FBI says is an online extremist network.

FBI’s Boston Division says the 17-year-old has been federally charged for acts related to extremist groups in the 764 network, which has been linked to child exploitation.

The FBI says the teen, whose name is not being released, conspired to sexually exploit a child, distributed child sex abuse material, and committed identity theft among other crimes.

The teen will serve a term of detention followed by juvenile delinquent supervision.
