A 20-year-old Poland man is accused of stabbing a person and then stealing a truck in Minot.

Androscoggin County deputies say they determined Payton Hamilton stabbed an 18-year-old after tracking Hamilton down in a stolen pickup truck that he crashed in Oxford during a chase.

Hamilton and the victim reportedly knew each other.

The Sheriff’s Office says a caller reported someone stole their Ford F-150 pickup truck on West Minot Road in Minot around 5 a.m. on Saturday.

Deputies say they spotted Hamilton of Poland driving the stolen truck and tried to pull him over, but he fled and eventually crashed into a utility pole on Robinson Hill Road in Oxford.

Deputies say Hamilton suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital to get checked out before being arrested.

He initially faced five charges:

  • ELUDING AN OFFICER Class C.
  • VIOLATION OF CONDITIONS OF RELEASE, Class E.
  • OUI (ALCOHOL) REFUSAL, Class D.
  • THEFT BY UNAUTHORIZED TAKING, Class B.
  • BURGLARY, Class C.

Then at about 10:00 am, Androscoggin County deputies received a request from the Lewiston Police Department to contact Central Maine Medical Center and investigate a stabbing which took place in West Minot.

The victim, an 18-year-old man, reported he was stabbed, and deputies say the investigation determined that Hamilton had stabbed the victim prior to stealing the truck.

Deputies then brought two more charges against Hamilton:

  • AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, Class B
  • VIOLATION OF CONDITIONS OF RELEASE, Class E

Hamilton is currently in custody at the Androscoggin County Jail on $50,000.00 cash bail.
