A Cumberland County corrections officer who was acquitted of criminal charges is suing the sheriff who fired him three years ago.
According to the Portland Press Herald, Vinal Thompson was found not guilty of assault and reckless conduct after a confrontation with an inmate in 2020.
Last week, Thompson filed a civil complaint in U.S. District Court, alleging that Sheriff Kevin Joyce and Manager James Gailey violated his due process rights as an officer and illegally fired him.
Thompson returned to work at the jail in April.
