Maine CDC detects new HIV cases in Cumberland County

The Maine Center for Disease Control has confirmed five cases of HIV in Cumberland County so far this year.

The Maine CDC said in an alert Wednesday that the cases were detected among people who inject drugs.

The latest cases come amid an outbreak of HIV in Penobscot County, which climbed to 30 cases in October.

The Maine CDC says its working with medical providers and community organizations to increase access to testing in Cumberland County, as well as connect people with care and prevention services.
