Maine lawmakers have ordered a review after a teenager in foster care allegedly murdered two people he was living with in Chelsea.

The 16-year-old is charged in the deaths of Christopher Hunnewell, the teen’s foster father, and Ty Carter, Hunnewell’s adopted adult son, back in June.

On Wednesday, the Maine Legislature’s Government Oversight Committee unanimously approved an investigation into any interactions between the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and the teenager.

Republican lawmakers requested the review after learning that Hunnewell’s relatives raised concerns about the teen’s mental health before the killings.

Authorities have not identified the teenager.
