Investigators say island fire in Hollis caused by campfire

A fire on an island in Hollis on Friday was caused by a campfire that wasn’t fully put out.

Crews had to wait for a boat to get to the island on the Saco River, with one firefighter taking a paddleboard out to find a 25-by-40 foot area in flames.

Hollis firefighters were able to put the fire out with the help of the Waterboro Fire Department.

The Hollis Fire Department is reminding Mainers that fire danger is still high and no burn permits are being issued.
