Officials with the Bangor International Airport say six people were killed when a business jet crashed on takeoff at the airport Sunday night.

The airport has been closed since the crash at about 7:45 pm involving a Bombardier Challenger 650, which is a small business jet.

The plane had caught fire and ended up upside down.

The Bangor airport disputed an earlier FAA crash report which said seven people were killed and one crew member was seriously injured.

The FAA later corrected its earlier report and confirmed that six people died.

The city of Bangor and the airport say emergency crews were on the scene for several hours actively working the site.

They said an Emergency Operation Center was set up, and all flights after the crash were canceled. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

CNN reports the plane is registered to a limited liability corporation in Houston, according to federal records.

Minutes before the crash, controllers and pilots at Bangor Airport can be heard talking about low visibility and deicing.
