Police say a husband and wife are dead from a car crash on Sunday morning in Sanford.

Officers say 86-year-old Arthur Karcher and 85-year-old Catherine Karcher were headed south on Main Street just before 9 a.m. when their 2024 Chevy Malibu drifted across the center line and hit an oncoming SUV, a 2019 Toyota Highlander.

The Karchers and the driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old Lyman woman, were taken to a hospital with serious or life-threatening injuries.

The Karchers later died of their injuries, while the condition of the woman was not known.

Police say weather and road conditions were not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
