Two fishermen are safe after being rescued when their boat caught fire Thursday morning, about 20 miles off the coast of Bar Harbor.

The Coast Guard says they received a Mayday call at 9:15 am reporting a fishing vessel on fire with two persons on board in the vicinity of Mount Desert Rock.

They say that while they were en route, the two fishermen had abandoned their boat and were recovered by members of the College of the Atlantic who were conducting research on Mount Desert Rock.

The Coast Guard then took the fishermen to shore, where they received medical evaluation and were returned to their families. The condition of the fishermen was not released.

College of the Atlantic is a private liberal arts college in Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island.
