Portland Police say a parent detained by immigration agents outside of a school had been arrested and charged with domestic violence the day before.

The detainment of 42-year-old Denis Rivera-Martinez by ICE agents outside of Gerald Talbot School last Thursday led to outrage in the community, with school officials saying the officers who detained him refused to identify themselves.

In a statement, a U.S. Homeland Security spokesperson later clarified that ICE agents detained Rivera-Martinez, pointing blame at Portland police for releasing him from custody after his arrest.

The Homeland Security Department says Rivera-Martinez is a criminal illegal alien from Honduras.

ICE’s database shows a “Denis Rivera” is being held at Buffalo Federal Detention Facility in New York.
