Deputies Looking for Driver Who Left Scene After Hitting Pedestrian in Pownal

Cumberland County Sheriff's Office - WGME

Cumberland County deputies are asking for public help to find the driver in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash that took place in Pownal last weekend.

Deputies say 36-year-old Zachary Cooperstein of Gray was returning to his vehicle from a walk in the woods in the area of 825 Hallowell Road at about noon on Sunday when he was hit by a car.

They say the car, a white Toyota Camry, was driven by an older woman who stopped and spoke to Cooperstein, but left the scene traveling from the area toward Durham before deputies arrived.

Cooperstein sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information as to the vehicle and operator to contact Deputy Andrew Hanna through the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center at 207-893-2810
