Cumberland Police Rescue Injured Barred Owl

Cumberland Police Rescue Injured Barred Owl

Injured barred owl - Cumberland Police

Cumberland Police say they helped rescue an injured barred owl found in a roadway late Thursday night.

The bird appeared injured and was unable to fly.

Officers say they consulted with the Maine Warden Service and Avian Haven before the owl was picked up.

It’s being delivered to a rehabilitation center today.

Barred owls are one of 11 different owls that are present in Maine and are known to be vocal year-round with their distinctive calls.

Maine Inland Fish and Wildlife says people who see an injured owl should contact a wildlife rehabilitation facility immediately and note regional wildlife offices keep a list of rehabilitators.

Licensed rehabilitators are the only people legally permitted to transport and keep wildlife, including owls.
