A crashed-out semi on the Maine Turnpike in New Glouster will remain in place until 9 am Thursday

The state Department of Public Safety (DPS) says earlier freezing rain will delay the unloading of the trailer loaded with oranges and removing the vehicle until after Wednesday night’s major storm.

Meanwhile, the truck and trailer are off the road and marker barrels are in place to indicate where it’s located.

The truck sustained major damage and it’s the trailer rolled onto its side when it left the road overnight Wednesday morning. The single vehicle crash was reported at 3:30 am.

DPS says the initial investigation indicates that the driver of truck had lost control and struck the median guardrail before being redirected back off the road’s right-side shoulder.

The cab of the truck remained upright while partially turned over. The truck sustained major damage during the crash, although the driver was not injured. The Department of Agriculture was contacted about the trailer’s load of oranges.

The Maine Turnpike Authority plans on having a full lane closure to safely remove the truck and contents Thursday.

The truck is owned by DW Carrier INC of Fresno, California. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
