Clinton Police Say Missing Officer Post is Hoax

Clinton Police are warning the public about a fake social media post that claims a police officer is missing.

Officers say a post showed up on an Oxford area messaging Facebook page over the weekend claiming Officer Jonathan Diller went missing from Oxford on Saturday morning.

It also claims his truck was found with his son inside, but there was no sign of Diller. In addition, the post says there’s a Silver Alert for Diller, who is considered to be in extreme danger and in need of medical assistance.

Clinton police say those claims are completely false and point out Diller was a member of the New York City Police Department and died earlier this year. Officers say the post has ended up on many community groups across the country and has made it to Maine.

They are asking that people stop sharing the post because it is spreading misinformation.
