Ceremonies were held around the state on Thursday to mark 24 years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

At the 9/11 Memorial in Portland’s Fort Allen Park, local fire and police departments took part in a remembrance ceremony.

Portland Fire Chief Chad Johnston delivered remarks at 8:46 Thursday morning, the exact time the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Two of the terrorists flew out of the Portland Jetport the morning of the attacks.

More than 400 first responders died as a result of the attacks.

Ceremonies were also held Thursday in Rockland and Lewiston.
