Maine businessman David Jones in the race for state governor.

The owner of F.O. Real Estate, Jones is one of seven Republicans running in the election as of June 25, 2025. “We’re fundraising now and doing pretty good at it,” said Jones. Opposing Republicans include Ken Capron, Bobby Charles, James Libby, Owen McCarthy, Steven Sheppard, and Robert Wessels.

Jones says part of the reason he is qualified for the position is his work ethic. “I believe my work ethic is second to none,” said Jones. He has worked in the construction business, concrete business, and real estate business in his professional career. The New Jersey native moved to Maine in 1997, having also lived in Florida.

“I love Maine, I just can’t stand the way it’s run,” said Jones. One of his biggest campaign goals is to reduce spending and lower taxes. “The only way we’re going to lower taxes is to get spending under control… I want to be known as the opportunity governor, the guy that cut the regulations… and made it so that Maine is the place to be.”

On his campaign site, Jones cited founding the “Making Maine Great Again” Political Action Committee as part of his prior political experience. He also served as a 2024 Republican National Committee Delegate and Platform Committee member and considers himself a “steadfast supporter of President Trump.” Additionally, Jones ran for governor as an independent candidate in 2006, dropping out of the race a few months before the election.

The 2026 Maine gubernatorial election will take place on November 3, 2026, with primaries preceding.
