Brush Fire Burns Nearly an Acre in New Gloucester

Brush Fire - New Gloucester Fire Rescue

A fire in a wooded area of New Gloucester burned nearly an acre before being brought under control Sunday afternoon.

New Gloucester Fire Rescue says they were assisted by crews from Poland, Gray and North Yarmouth after upgrading the fire near Bennett and Swamp roads to an All-Hands incident.

They say they had to overcome access issue before getting a hose to the head of the fire and bringing it to 100 percent contained.

Firefighters say dry brush, low humidity, and wind gusts contributed to the fire’s growth and spread.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Maine Forest Service. No injuries were reported.

Crews were on the scene for nearly three hours Sunday afternoon.

“Even on days with lower fire danger, outside fires have the potential to grow fast given the right environment,” New Gloucester Fire Rescue said in a statement.

Maine Forest Service has noted conditions during the spring bring the highest fire danger in the state.

Wildfire Awareness Week is observed every April in Maine.
