A Bangor man pleaded guilty to murder for the death of his 10-year-old son.

Joshua Smith, 35, entered his plea Thursday, days before his trial was set to begin.

He had initially entered a not guilty plea and attempted to change his plea on Tuesday to not guilty by reason of insanity.

Smith is the second family member to plead guilty in connection with the death of Braxtyn Smith.

The boy died in February of 2024 after years of abuse at the hands of family members, including his mother, Jem Bean, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Smith’s sentencing is likely to take place in September.

He faces life in prison if convicted.
