There are no longer elevated bacteria advisories at five southern Maine beaches where warnings had been issued,
Advisories for Little Beach and Riverside Beach in Ogunquit were dropped Thursday evening, while advisories for Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, Higgins Beach in Scarborough, and Laite Beach in Camden were dropped earlier in the day.
Beachgoers had been advised not to make contact with the water while the advisories were in place.
The beaches were found to have unsafe levels of enterococci bacteria earlier in the week, which can sicken swimmers.
Enterococcus bacteria can cause urinary tract infections (UTIs), endocarditis, wound infections, and intra-abdominal infections.
