Nearly two decades after its previous location closed, Ashley furniture store is returning to the South Portland market. Broad River Retail, a major licensee of the brand, is developing a new 44,900-square-foot showroom and outlet at Jetport Plaza on Western Avenue. The store will occupy the space formerly held by Burlington, which relocated in 2021, and is scheduled to open in the first half of 2026.

This expansion marks Broad River Retail’s first entry into the Maine market and is expected to create approximately 45 new jobs, ranging from sales and leadership to distribution roles. The move places the retailer in the heart of a competitive furniture corridor near the Maine Mall, joining several other major home furnishing brands. Company officials cited the Greater Portland region’s strong retail demand and sustained growth as the primary reasons for the comeback.
