Arctic Air to Takeover Maine Weather Pattern After Two Quick Snowstorms

There’s more snow on the ground after the second of two snowstorms in Maine since Saturday.

But Accuweather Meteorologist Joe Lundberg says there’s a pattern of arctic air quickly heading into the state, which will likely block more storms in the next week.

“I think that the sheer amount of cold air that moves into the area will probably push the next storm track farther to our south and well away from our area,” said Lundberg. “So, we’re just going to have to endure extreme cold this weekend. But no storm systems.”

Lundberg says we could see negative temperatures in the Portland area by Saturday morning and night as arctic air is moving into the state.

He says, for the rest of the winter season, there’ll be more snow and extremely cold weather.

“Believe it or not, January has been a bit above normal by about two and a half degrees,” Lundberg said. “That’s about to change that December was much below normal by about six degrees. But I think this winter, when all is said and done, it’s going to be near to slightly above normal snowfall and definitely colder than normal.”
