A man was reportedly shot and killed by sheriff’s deputies outside the Rumford police station.

According to the Bangor Daily News, officers were interviewing someone in front of the police station, and the individual said they were being followed by an unfamiliar vehicle.

Police say 23-year-old Sean Dymet drove up to the station in a vehicle matching the description given by the witness.

Police say he got out and confronted officers with a rifle.

Two Oxford County sheriff’s deputies shot at the man, who was taken to Rumford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave as the Maine Attorney General’s Office investigates, standard procedure following police-involved shootings.
