A Fatal Fire in Readfield, Claims a Life of a Woman

The Fatal House Fire in Readfield /The Office of the State Fire Marshal


A woman is dead after a fire swept through her home in Readfield, late Friday night.

Fire crews responded to a house on Plains Road around 9:50 pm.

Neighbors were able to rescue 74-year-old Jerrold Wentworth through a 2nd floor window.

His wife, 75-year-old Carolyn Wentworth, didn’t make it out of the house and her body was discovered, hours after the fire was extinguished.

Jerrold Wentworth is currently in serious condition at the Maine General Medical Center in Augusta.

The investigation hasn’t found the cause of the fire yet and remains ongoing.
