A house in the Pine Point coastal area of Scarborough is heavily damaged after firefighters spent about five hours battling a blaze at the home on Driftwood Lane Thursday.
The fire was elevated to two alarms because of heavy fire conditions, and crews were forced outside the home because the roof became unstable.
The fire chief says tank trucks from surrounding fire departments had to be brought in when the water in the Pine Point hydrant system ran out.
Fire crews cleared the scene at 7 pm. There were no injuries as no one was inside the home at the time.
The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to assist the Scarborough Fire Department and both agencies are investigating the cause of the fire.
Scarborough firefighters were assisted on scene by Old Orchard Beach Fire, Saco Fire, Biddeford Fire, South Portland Fire, Portland Fire, and Buxton Fire.
Portland, Westbrook and Gorham Fire Departments responded into Scarborough to cover empty firehouses.
