12-Year-Old Has Serious Injuries in Portland Scooter-Vehicle Crash

A 12-year-old boy has serious injuries after being hit while driving an electric scooter in Portland on Tuesday.

Police say the boy was driving the wrong way and crossed an intersection without stopping, before being hit by a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old man from Portland.

The boy was taken to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police say no charges are expected from the crash at the intersection of Mellen and Sherman streets just before 1 pm Tuesday.

The Portland Police Department and its Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident. Officers are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have information to  call them at 207-874-8532 or 207-874-8575.
