A 5-year-old kindergartener was struck and killed by a school bus near Edna Libby Elementary School in Standish on Tuesday.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reports the crash happened at about 8 a.m. on Northeast Road, which is Route 35.

The crash involved an MSAD 6 school bus and 5-year-old Simon Gonzalez, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cumberland County deputies are investigating the crash with the assistance of Maine State Police and the school district.
