Fire Destroys Home, Injures People in Limestone

Jocelyn Derrah Dillon - Limestone Fire Department

A home in northern Maine’s Limestone was destroyed by a large fire Saturday night, which left numerous people injured.

Firefighters say crews arrived at 65 High Street at 8:21 pm to find the home fully engulfed in flames and had difficulty bringing the fire under control due to the home’s construction with several roof layers trapping the fire.

They say people inside the home escaped but were taken to a hospital for burn injuries and smoke inhalation.

Firefighters say the home is a total loss because of the extent of fire and water damage.

Fifteen total firefighters from Limestone and the Caribou Fire & Ambulance Department battled the fire.

Fire crews cleared the scene at 12:53 AM The investigators remained on scene to complete fire cause investigation.

The city of Presque Isle reports one of its Public Works crew members was seriously injured in the fire.
