Why radio?
As a kid in the early 80s I started listening to old time radio shows on a local AM and fell in love with those. And then as a teen, later in the 80s, I discovered the original BBC Radio version of The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, and I was hooked. You can do anything with radio!
Why CLZ?
I’m a native New Englander (originally from Lenox, MA) and have always wanted to make radio back in the Northeast. It feels great to be here.
What would people be most surprised to learn about you?
I speak Japanese, have lived in a van for several years, and was a professional musician in my 20s.
What’s your favorite place in Maine?
Stonington. I first visited there when I was living in my van and it felt like I had just driven back in time. Such a gorgeous place.
What is your secret talent?
I write poetry. It’s not that secret, really, but it doesn’t come up a lot on the radio.
Most embarrassing moment?
I don’t embarrass easily, but I’m in my 50s so I’ve had time. I guess I’ll throw it back to my teen years when I took a solo with a jazz big band in Japan, and right at the high point of the solo I let out a squeak on my instrument that is probably still echoing through the hills of northern Japan.
