No injuries were reported following a vehicle that caught fire Saturday morning on Interstate 95.

Maine State Police responded to mile marker 204 southbound in Penobscot County town of Alton, north of Bangor, for a reported car fire.

Police say a vehicle carrying three people developed a mechanical issue, prompting the drive to pull off the side of the road. Once stopped, the car started to smoke and flames erupted.

All three occupants of the vehicle escape without harm, but the car was a total loss.

The smoke could be spotted for miles, and Alton Fire Department responded to put out the flames. Traffic was down to one lane southbound in the area until the scene was cleared.
