Mumford and Sons star Ted Dwane has vowed to give up his trademark headbanging onstage amid fears it caused a blood clot to form on his brain.

The bassist was hospitalized for emergency surgery in June after doctors diagnosed the clot while the band was on tour in Texas.

They axed several gigs, but Dwane made a swift recovery from his operation and enjoyed a triumphant return to the stage at Britain’s Glastonbury festival just three weeks later.

Now he has opened up about his terrifying health scare, revealing he suffered an agonizing headache for 10 days before visiting a medic.

Dwane tells Q magazine, “I came offstage and I felt awful. I could hardly walk. I lay down and people thought it was heatstroke, so I just drank loads of water… I’m not sure (if headbanging caused it). But it happened during a gig, so… I dunno. I just got a bit overexcited.”

Asked if he plans to stop headbanging during gigs, Dwane replies, “Definitely, yeah. You’ll notice today it’s all in the hips.”
