Rockers Arctic Monkeys have credited R&B star Ashanti as the inspiration behind their track “R U Mine?”

The British musicians were influenced by their favorite hip-hop and R&B singles of their youth when they were making their latest album “AM,” and frontman Alex Turner reveals “R U Mine?” was based on an Ashanti song.

He tells British Esquire magazine,”‘R U Mine?’ was kind of a lift from an Ashanti tune. We like the scales and the melodies on some of those records. The way the backing vocals might come right to the front and disappear again… There was a crossroads at one point where it was, like, ‘Are we going to go for this thing or not?’ And thankfully we decided to take the red pill (make that choice).”
